Kitty O'Sheas is an "Irish farm to fork fare" restaurant located within the Hilton Chicago Hotel on Michigan. Chef Luis Valdez is the man behind delicious items such as fish and chips, shepherd's pie, beef and cabbage, and many more delicious options. Brian Mullin made some delicious Jameson drinks behind the bar, and GM John Aranza took the time to tell us about the menu and make sure everything runs smoothly. Out waitress was informative and super sweet (she didn't bat an eye while I was constantly rearranging dishes and moving everything around haha!)
We started off with the Cheese Plate featuring Wisconsin camembert blue, organic cheddar, and Irish cheese. It comes with some toast, almonds, and jelly. Please do yourself a favor and try the raspberry pepper jelly! It's delicious, and was one of my favorites of the night. I'm one of those people who can happily polish away an entire pile of crackers with pepper jelly and cream cheese. This reminded me of that, but definitely better and maybe just a little fancier. ;P The pepper kick was just right, it was honestly so good I was scooping bits up with a spoon towards the end.
Another surprising favorite was the Smoked Chicken Salad. You could taste the smokiness in the chicken and it mixed well with the mustard dressing. Also I really like peas so that was an extra plus. The batter in the fish and chips is a delicious Irish ale tempura, and the potatoes are crisp on the outside and super fluffy on the inside. I was not expecting the tartar sauce to have such a strong dill flavor...I am not a dill person but I will admit it grew on me as I continued eating. The Shepherd's Pie was my least favorite, but still pretty good. I was surprised because I usually love this dish, but I wished the inside had been a little thicker and contained some vegetables. Chef Valdez mentioned they will be changing this soon, so I am curious to see what the new version will be!
Both of the drinks Brian Mullin brought out were very good. He used Jameson Caskmates and I liked that the mint drink was a more subtle mint. I dislike super sugary, minty drinks and so this was very good. I also loved the Irish coffee. Again, there was just the right amount of sugar and the alcohol content wasn't too strong. I would definitely come back for this.
Had a great time at Kitty's! Would be great to go with a group of friends or for casual lunch. Also, afterwards wander up towards the lobby if the Hilton and take a look around because it's beautiful. When the weather gets nicer you could go for a walk towards Millenium Park too. :)
